The afternoon slump always gets me. Whether I have caffeine or not, I seem to regularly crave some sort of sweet treat as a pick-me-up! Happily, I found out that I could satisfy the cravings and give my body the nutrients it needs.
Blueberries are chock-full of antioxidants and are low on the glycemic index. Bananas create the bulk of sweetness for this smoothie, while adding in potassium and texture. Cacao and maca are two Peruvian superfoods that work together to provide a long-lasting supply of energy and clarity. They can be bought at a variety of health food stores, or even your local Trader Joe’s. (If you have one in your region.) An 8-ounce bag of both will last you quite a while!

Blues Buster Smoothie
- 1/2 cup frozen blueberries
- 1/2 banana
- 1 scoop pure protein powder (I like Isagenix’s vanilla protein)
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 tbsp cacao
- 1/2 tsp maca
Blend well, and enjoy! Tip: If you’re on the go, store it in a mason jar to keep it fresh until you’re ready.
Calories: 213. Protein: 20 grams. Fat: 2 grams. Carbs: 29 grams. Fiber: 6 grams. Sugars: 17 grams.
